We carefully consider each application based on a review of your overall academic record and activities outside the classroom which you will report when you complete the Engineering Supplemental Application. If your first language is not English, you may be required to provide proof of English proficiency.
We consider each applicant on the basis of their overall academic history. Applicants will be evaluated based on the educational system they are following, regardless of their country of citizenship.
Review the Academic Requirements sections to determine your eligibility. Special attention will be given to your grades in the prerequisite courses.
Apply using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) application.
Your OUAC ranking of U of T Engineering may be considered when we review your application.

Engineering Supplemental Assessment Fee
Students who wish to apply to U of T Engineering are required to pay an Engineering Supplemental Assessment Fee of $69.00 when submitting their application.
Shortly after we receive your OUAC application, you will receive your JOINid with details on how to enable it.
Once your JOINid is enabled, you may proceed to the Engineering Applicant Portal where you will complete the mandatory Engineering Supplemental Application.
The Engineering Supplemental Application is your opportunity to help us better understand you as a person and your strengths outside of the classroom. Learn more about completing your Engineering Supplemental Application. If you do not complete your supplemental application, your application will not be considered.
We strongly recommend that you complete your Engineering Supplemental Application and submit your supporting documents by December 1. Review our full list of deadlines.
Submit Your Documents
You will be able to see your required documents on the Engineering Applicant Portal. To get a full picture of your academic history, we require your:
- Transcripts from all academic institutions you have attended from the start of high school to the present
- A copy of your secondary school transcript with results for all courses that have been completed and that are in progress
- Proof of English facility (if required)*
If at the time of application you have not received any interim grades, you may upload a copy of your transcript that confirms your enrolment in the prerequisite subjects and follow-up with an updated transcript when one is available. As your application is reviewed, additional information may be required. We advise that you continue to check your Engineering Applicant Portal for updates.
We may require additional documents for certain education systems. For more information, please refer to your school system in the Academic Requirements section below.
Your full name and date issued must be clearly visible on your documents. Please note that your application cannot be reviewed if required documents are missing. For early consideration, your documents must be submitted by December 1.
*English Language Requirement
You may be required to provide proof of English proficiency, visit the English Language Requirements page to evaluate if you are required to satisfy this requirement. If you are required to provide proof of English facility, your results must be submitted as indicated on the University’s English Language Requirements page and must be received by our document submission deadline.
Admissible applicants are considered for scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and extracurricular involvement as demonstrated in the Engineering Supplemental Application. U of T Engineering applicants may also be considered for university-wide scholarships, for which a separate application is required.
International (Study Permit)
To receive full consideration for the U of T Engineering International Scholar Award, applicants must complete the Financial Information section in the Engineering Applicant Portal.
International students are not eligible for financial aid from the University of Toronto, however financial information may be taken into consideration when making U of T Engineering International Scholar Award decisions. It is important for international students to research financial aid and scholarship opportunities offered in your home country.

Domestic (Canadian Citizens/Permanent Residents/Protected Persons)
In addition to scholarship consideration, domestic students may also be eligible to be considered for government financial aid programs.
UTAPS
The University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students (UTAPS) program provides non-repayable grants to students to help cover this financial need gap, or unmet need. All students who would like to be considered for UTAPS must complete the Need Navigator. For more information, visit the University Registrar’s Office website.

If you want to live in residence, you must complete U of T’s common residence application (U of T Residence Portal) via the Engineering Applicant Portal. This step allows you to indicate your residence choices. To qualify for our Residence Guarantee, complete the U of T residence application by March 31 and accept your offer of admission by your deadline to accept your offer or June 1 (whichever comes first).
The best way to stay informed of the status of your application is to check the Engineering Applicant Portal regularly. Here you can:

When a decision is made, it will be posted in the Engineering Applicant Portal. Admission decisions are made on an ongoing basis.
Academic Requirements
All applicants to the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering are required to present senior level courses in:
- Mathematics (including Calculus)
- Physics
- Chemistry
- English
In cases where applicants are not able to present a required prerequisite subject, it may be replaced with the Grade 12 Ontario high school equivalent prerequisite subject. The prerequisite subject must be completed at an institution that is accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education. If you have any questions about meeting our requirements, please contact the Engineering Undergraduate Admissions Office.
Prerequisite courses must be completed within five years of your intended start date. For example, any applicant whose intended start date is September 2027 must have completed the prerequisite requirements after September 2022 for admissions consideration. If you have completed the prerequisite requirements more than five years before your intended start date, you will be required to complete them once more.
Detailed requirements for education systems from which we commonly receive applications are listed below. Please read through the details for your education system for more information. For diploma requirements for all other countries, visit the International Admission Requirements section of the University Admissions and Outreach website.
International Curriculums
GCE: Candidates completing the GCE/British pattern system must present at least three Advanced Level subjects including:
- Advanced Level Mathematics
- Advanced Level Physics
- IGCSE/GCE/O-Level Chemistry, however Advanced Level Chemistry or AS-Level Chemistry are strongly recommended. If you are not taking AS/A-level Chemistry, you must present O-level Chemistry for admission consideration.
- Third A-level subject if Chemistry is not presented at the Advanced level
Grades of B or higher are recommended; candidates meeting these requirements are not guaranteed admission. Candidates with a final or predicted result of C or below in any of the prerequisite subjects will not be considered for admission.
No advanced standing credit is granted for Advanced Level courses.
Cambridge Pre-University: Candidates completing the full Cambridge International Pre-University Diploma are required to present:
- 3 Principal Subjects (or a combination of Advanced Level subjects and Principal Subjects) in Math, Chemistry and Physics
- Global Perspectives and Independent Research Report (GPR)

Candidates must be completing six units of Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) diploma (six units) offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council and must present:
- Three CAPE Unit I examination subjects including Pure Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
- Three CAPE Unit II examination subjects including Pure Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics
- English completed at the CSEC or CAPE level, Communication Studies cannot be used to meet this requirement
- Candidates must also demonstrate excellent overall CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) or Ordinary Level results in the prerequisite subjects in order to be considered for admission.
Candidates with a final or predicted grade 3 or below in any prerequisite course will not be considered for admission.

Candidates following the International School of Choueifat curriculum must be attending a SABIS-accredited school and must present:
- A combination of the prerequisite subjects at the Advanced Level and/or in AP subjects
While predicted results will be sufficient for the review of an application, applicants are expected to sit for Advanced Level and AP exams in all prerequisite subjects.
Advanced Level subjects: Grades of B or higher are recommended. Candidates with a final or predicted result of C or below in any of the prerequisite subjects will not be considered for admission.
AP subjects: AP exams, should present minimum scores of at least 4 to be competitive

Candidates completing the Baccalauréat/Baccalauréat Genéral must present the following prerequisite subjects in Year 11 (Première) & Year 12 (Terminale):
- Spécialité mathématiques
- Spécialité physiques – chimie
In addition, applicants are required to present Terminale Anglais. Mathématiques Expertes is also recommended in the Terminale year.
Grades of 14 or higher are recommended for admissions consideration. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.

Candidates are required to complete a certification with excellent results in the grade 12 prerequisite requirements, with one of the following boards:

- Indian School Certificate (awarded by CISCE) or
- Year 12 State Board Exams with excellent results
Candidates may be considered for early admissions based on excellent 10th board examination results, final 11th school grades and predicted class 12 Board results from your school.

Candidates must present:
- Mathematics — one of the following:
- Analysis and Approaches HL*

* Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL is strongly recommended.
Where it is not indicated, prerequisite courses can be completed at either the Standard or Higher Level. While the Committee accepts Standard Level (SL) courses, additional consideration is given for prerequisite courses completed at the Higher Level (HL). Additional points awarded for Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay are not considered by the Admissions Committee.
Although most programs require higher scores, applicants must have a minimum predicted score of at least 30 (excluding ToK and EE points) with a minimum score of 4 in prerequisite subjects, in order to be considered for admission. Please note that the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering does not grant advanced standing credit for courses completed in the IB Diploma program.

Candidates completing the U.S. patterned curriculum must be completing Grade 12 at an accredited high school, present ACT or SAT and at least a full year (or two terms) of the following subject requirements:

Competitive applicants who have written one or more of the following exams are expected to present the minimum scores for admission consideration outlined below:
- AP exams, should present minimum scores of at least 4
- SAT each section 650
- ACT composite scores of at least 30 with scores of at least 28 in Math and Science
The Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering does not grant advanced standing credit for AP exams.
Once you have applied to U of T Engineering you’ll be required to submit the following documents:
- SAT, AP and/or ACT test scores must be sent electronically.
- For SAT and AP, reference institution code 0982-00;
- ACT, reference institution code 5366.
- High school transcript to date showing marks for all completed courses and interim marks for courses in progress.
- School Profile – including courses and curriculum(s) offered by your school.
These documents may be uploaded through the Engineering Applicant Portal after we receive your application. If your school uses Parchment/Naviance, your documents can be sent to the University of Toronto electronically. Applicants are responsible for regularly checking their application to ensure all documents have been received.
Candidates that are following the West African Senior School Certificate Examination curriculum are required to present:
- The West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) with the prerequisite requirements
Candidates with a final or predicted result below B2 in any of the prerequisite subjects will not be considered for admission.

* The Module in Chemistry is strongly recommended but the Committee will consider the Combined Science module in Biology and Chemistry.
