Meet the Blogger!

Hi all! My name is Mirjana Mijalkovic (she/her), and I’ll be your in-house blogger this summer.

I’m an EngSci 2T2, which means I’m in the (Eng)ineering (Sci)ence program, and my graduation year is 2022. You’ll find that this format of introducing yourself is common among U of T Engineering students and even in our alumni community. In Engineering we like to shorten a lot of the phrases we use, and it’s one of the quirky but totally awesome ways in which we interact with each other in our community.

Some background about me: I’ll be heading into my third year of EngSci in the Fall in the Biomedical Systems major. I was born and raised here in Toronto and my favourite quarantine hobbies thus far have been discovering old detective/mystery movies and tending to my veggie garden. This summer I’ve been taking a course on Artificial Intelligence fundamentals in the Faculty and doing a work-study placement with the First Year Office (FYO). If you sign up for any of the FYO’s Academic Orientation or Success 101 sessions this summer (which I highly recommend!), you’ll get a chance to hear from me and fellow work-study buddy Sarah.

These past few years in U of T Engineering (I can’t believe it’s already been YEARS) have been a rollercoaster of excitement, surprises, and memories. I’ve had the pleasure of getting involved in a variety of activities on campus including sports, design teams, and student government which have made my time here that much more enriched. This year, I’ll be your Vice-President Academic of EngSoc with the mandate of supporting all our undergraduate students in the completion of their degrees.

I’ll also be including a “Lingo Legend” at the bottom of each of the posts that will explain any uncommon jargon or terminology I use. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of some of the words or expressions I reference, or why on earth I have a photo of me wearing 4 hardhats…it’ll all be covered.
