Congratulations on accepting your spot to join us at U of T Engineering!
It is no small feat to apply to university, much less decide on ONE school to attend. You’ve worked incredibly hard to get to this moment and have SO much to be proud of. Whether you’ve lived in Toronto your whole life or have never travelled to the city before, each of you will be embarking on a new and exciting journey into the next chapter of your lives.
I wanted to spend this first post talking about one particular word you’ll hear a lot these next few years.
Skule.
What is Skule?
Well, we wouldn’t be Engineering students if we didn’t have an instructional video on-hand which answers that very question. But Skule is also more than just what’s in the video.
Skule is…
… the name of our student community here in U of T Engineering. By virtue of being a student here, you’re automatically a part of this community, welcome!
… the spirit of what it means to be a U of T Engineering student. We value fairness and honesty, diversity and inclusivity, and above all, respect for yourself and your fellow peers.
… a community of people also referred to as Skuligans! And since you’re joining us, that makes you a Skuligan too!
… a place where cool people come together to collaborate, celebrate, and care for one another.
… a place that exists just as much on-campus as it does in our online spaces.
… a community that’ll last beyond your undergraduate years.
… knowing that no matter where you are in the world, past and present Skuligans are never too far away.
Oh, and did I mention we even own the trademark rights to the name Skule™?
