Non-Matriculated (Mature) Applicants

Non-matriculated applicants are candidates who are 21 or older, who have not completed the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).

Applicants who have attempted or are completing post-secondary studies should apply as a Transfer Applicant. Those who have completed an engineering degree at another institution are not eligible to apply for degree level undergraduate studies in engineering at the University of Toronto. Please visit Engineering Graduate Studies for further information.

Non-matriculated applicants who wish to meet the admission requirements can do so by completing the Grade 12 pre-requisite courses. You are not required to complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent diploma based on your education system).

The Admissions Committee will consider you based on your overall academic history, including all secondary studies, and any extenuating circumstances that may have impacted the completion of your studies. Please note that secondary school courses completed more than five years from your intended start date cannot be used as your basis of admission.

If you have any concerns about meeting our prerequisite requirements, please contact the  Engineering Undergraduate Admissions Office to discuss your application.

Scholarships and Financial Planning

Applicants are considered for scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and extracurricular involvement as demonstrated in the Online Student Profile. Engineering applicants may also be considered for university-wide scholarships, for which a separate application is required.

Visit the Scholarships section of this website for related details, scholarships requiring a separate application and deadlines.

Domestic (Canadian Citizens / Permanent Residents / Protected Persons)

In addition to scholarship consideration, domestic students may also be eligible to be considered for government financial aid programs.

The University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students (UTAPS) program provides an estimate of potential funding available for your first year.  Information regarding the application process is forthcoming. For updates, please visit the University Registrar’s Office website.
